Music and Yarn - A great way to escape the bullshit in life
Hola Y’all!
Let’s talk music and making. Do you like to listen to music while you knit or sit in silence? Are podcasts your jam or do you Knitflix and Chill? While I love a good knitflix marathon and there are some killer podcasts out there, my favorite way to crochet and knit is sitting beachside with some good tunes.
It is often said that music expresses what words alone cannot; that music is what feelings sound like. I concur 100% with these sentiments. I am by no means a music buff and I often can’t tell you the name of bands and singers even of popular songs. When people ask, “What kind of music do you like?” I get really stumped. Because I listen to it all: country, rock and roll, reggae, Spanish and French pop, folk, and bluegrass. What’s important to me is how the music makes me feel. Sometimes it’s the melody that gets me, other times some poignant lyrics. Maybe the song just “gets me” in that moment and suits my mood. Whatever it is, music has the ability to put my mind and soul at ease. Add in the clacking of my knitting needles or a good crochet rhythm and it’s like a little escape from the rigors of life. A way to shrug off the fuckery that I’m dealing with at that moment and settle in for “me time”.
So, I wanted to share the tunes that move me and that I feel are perfect for yarning to. These songs might even give you a little glimpse into my chaotic mind. It’s a bit of an eclectic list, but I’m hoping it’ll get you reaching for your needles and hooks, pouring a refreshing cocktail, and settling in for some fun and relaxation. For your listening and making pleasure, here is my Spotify playlist Music To Yarn To.
Let me know what you think, y’all! Is there a song that resonates with you? Send me a message on Instagram or via email to let me know.
Get your groove on, Y’all.
