Show Us Your Knits!

Well, ok, technically I’m gonna show y’all MY knits!

Once again I’m a little behind on posting about my most recent FOs, but I feel like with the holidays and start of the New Year, it’s ok to be a bit behind. Winter is a time for rest and being cozy and slowing down. And honestly? I’m ok if my entire 2024 is more focused on rest and slowing down. Sooooo, you can probably expect more of these “late” groupings of my recent finished objects ;)

If you’d like to watch my YouTube video showcasing these FOs (and my current WIPs), click HERE!

The first finished object….y’all. THIS might be one of my favorite things I’ve ever made. It’s the Super Soft Coat by One Of A Kate. It’s a coat. A WHOLE FRIGGIN’ COAT! And I knit it with my own 2 hands!!! I’m obsessed with how it turned out and have worn it SO much already this year!

Now, as I’ve mentioned on YouTube and IG, while I LOVE the finished product, it was by complete accident that it turned out this way. I intended to make the coat exactly as Kate had designed it with long sleeves in pattern and having the recommended 10” of ease. But, uh, working on this coat post surgery in November, I kinda didn’t check my gauge as I knit and knit and knit. I also didn’t do “proper” try-ons and left the coat bunched up on the needles during fittings (rookie mistakes, Chelsea! Come on!). So when I finished the bind off on the body and excitedly tried it on I realize, HOLY SHIT. I’d mad a coat with 20” of positive ease and it was HUGE. Hahahahahaha.

My first try on of the coat. I was cackling. This was NOT the intended fit.

Yea, see the lapels? Those were supposed to hit just below my clavicle. Instead, they hit just below my belly button. Whoops!

I was so sad thinking I’d have to frog it because it was too too big, but then a few outside perspectives got me to change my viewpoint. Sunny of Noodly Knits called it “Sexy Macklemore” and my own fashion savvy mama told me it was GORGEOUS and “like a fur coat/cape”. I could totally see their vision of it and I thought if I changed up the sleeves of the design, this could really be something!!!!

The armhole depth was MUCH larger than the pattern and was about 16” deep. I decided to pick up as many stitches as felt right around the armhole (so the sleeves didn’t pull/bunch), and then decreased 2 sts every other round until the sleeves were 11” wide. I continued knitting in the round until they hit just below my elbow crease and I bound off. I used only the fur yarn so that it gave a kind of “capelet” vibe.

I am SO glad I decided not to frog and to embrace the mistake. I now have a gorgeous One Of A Kind One Of A Kate design that I feel glam and cozy in.

I used Lion Brand Yarn Go For Faux in colorway Pink Poodle and Hometown in colorway Palm Springs. I used approximately 8.5 balls of Go For Faux ( about 552 yards) and 1.5 balls of Hometown (about 122 yards).

My next FO was my final finished object of 2023. It was almost a 2024 FO, but I finished at 11:58 pm on New Years Eve!!!

This is my Musselburgh Hat by Ysolda Teague.

I know I’m a bit late to the Musselburgh Hat game. It seems like everyone has made not just one, but multiple of these hats. And now I understand why! This pattern is GENIUS. No gauge swatching, you can use any yarn from heavy lace through DK, it’s got beautiful details at the crown but also loads of mindless stockinette so it’s the perfect meditative/Knitflix project. I worked on my while queuing at Disney World, in the car ride from Pittsburgh to Orlando, and on my new walking pad while watching Vlogmas. I truly enjoyed making it and will probably cast on another soon for my hubby!!!

This hat is knit in a tube and then becomes double layered and is reversible! The only slightly challenging aspect of the entire design for me was deciding where to start the color change. I decided I was going to make my hat 22” long (pattern suggested 21” but I have a big head and a lot of hair). I started the color change when I’d knit in the pink for 11” and then measured from my final crown increase to the 11” mark to see that the “body” of the hat was 8.75”. I knit in the blue for 8.75”, ensured they matched up by folding the hat, and then began my decreases for the 2nd crown. It worked perfectly!

I used Bon Tricot Euphoria yarn from Espace Tricot in colorways Summer Peach and Robin’s Egg Blue. I used 40.5 grams (199 yds) of each colorway.

My final FO to share with y’all is my FIRST FO of 2024! It was a test for the fabulous MC of Blame The Knots and is her Super Fluffy Sweater design (pattern releases February 2024). This sweater is SO FREAKIN’ COZY!!!! It’s made with Bernat Pipsqueak blanket yarn and is honestly like wearing a hug :) :)

Usually, I gravitate toward vneck and plunging vneck necklines ;) but when I saw MC wearing this cozy sweater with an almost off-the-shoulder look, I signed up to test immediately. The pattern is SO well written and easy to follow and it’s a super quick make!!!! My only modification was making the neckline even more open (ballet-esque as I’m describing it) by decreasing an extra 3 stitches on each side and accounting for the that on the back panel as well.

I LOVE the finished result and I think this is a design every knitter could use for their cozy wardrobe!

I used approximately 524 oz of Bernat Pipsqueak in colorway Tickle Me Pink.

I’ve got loads of WIPs on my needles and hooks right now (seriously. There’s like 5 new designs/projects I’ve now started, haha). Stay tuned for next month’s Show Us Your Knits FO roundup!

And don’t forget to check out my YouTube where you’ll find more yarny, boozy goodness!

XOXOXO
