Whiskey and WIPs Wednesdays

Whiskey and WIPs Wednesdays

Trying out a new thing with Rows and Rosé and Knitting Tipsy.........It's Whiskey and WIPs Wednesdays! Yup, I'm drinking and knitting anyways, might as well get the gang together for it. *Every Wednesday at arouuuund 6pm EST, I'd like to do an Instagram Live video where we all sit and knit and sip some yummy beverages. *(May miss a few Wednesdays due to travel, life, and my level of inebriation). Ever done a Live before? Well, if you're anything like me with extreme anxiety, it's fucking terrifying!!! But we're doing it anyways, kiddos! Mostly because I'll have alcohol which makes all things easier ;) And speaking of alcohol, I'll be posting the recipe for the cocktail I'm imbibing that evening. It could be a fancy cocktail or simple something. It will be probably be whiskey based, but not always!!! And I guarantee you there will be times I'm just straight up sipping Bourbon neat. But, I'd love it if you'd come hang out, get some rows in, and possibly get a lil tipsy. Which brings us to this week's drink..............THE DIRTY IRISHMAN.

I am definitely a whiskey girl. It's my preferred liquor at home or on the prowl. My first love in the whiskey world (and the whiskey I always fall back on when unsure) is good ol' Jameson. Now I don't discriminate against any whiskey. Scotch, Irish, single malt, blend, bourbon, rye, all are near and dear to my heart. But Jameson is that easy go to that pairs great with ginger ale (my bar hopping go to order) or easily in many cocktail recipes. Irish whiskey is a whiskey primarily made from barley (as opposed to whiskey in the USA often made from corn. Ya use what ya got on hand.). Jameson whiskey is made from malted and unmalted barley and is distilled 3 times. Distilling whiskey means to purify the liquid through a process of evaporation and condensation. Distilling whiskey also pushes it toward a higher proof drink (whoop whoop!) and can often produce a light delicate flavor. In my opinion, Jameson is a great go to whiskey and is pretty reasonably priced for what you get.

So what can we make with whiskey besides shots and a hangover? Glad you asked! Today, I'm going to share a slightly different way to enjoy whiskey- as an after dinner (or breakfast? Why not?) cocktail. This is the recipe for the Dirty Irishman.

All ya need for a Dirty Irishman

All ya need for a Dirty Irishman

You'll need: Irish Whiskey, Bailey's Irish Cream, Half and Half, Coffee (I'm using decaf lest I be up all night).

You can enjoy this drink hot (for all you in fall weather now, enjoy a nice warm before dinner bevvie) or cold (iced coffee here in Florida!!!!).

I mix 1 part whiskey, 1 part Irish Cream, and 2 parts Half and Half in a shaker with ice. Shake, shake, shake.

Pour your coffee into your mug about half way. Pour your whiskey/cream mix into your coffee. Voila. Get your drink on. So easy, even I could do it.

Dirrrrrrrty Irishman. So good

Now I tend to take a lot of cream in my coffee on a normal day, so feel free to play with the proportions. Some days (most days) you might need more whiskey, maybe you prefer to go light on the cream, whatever floats your boat. Just enjoy your delicious cocktail and grab your needles/hooks. We are read to get to WIPping.

So this week I've got a few WIPs I'm working on. I'm doing a few markets and shows next month and am trying out some new items. I saw the pattern for these mermaid tail blankets on OTH Crochet Nook's Instagram and thought they were pretty adorable. I've got little nieces and friends' kids at the mermaid age stage so I think they might do pretty well. I decided to use Bernat Blanket yarn instead of 3 strands of worsted because, well, I have a ton of blanket yarn in my stash. I love the bright fun colors and hope that some little ones get to snuggle in these soon. They are really simple to make even for beginning crocheters and they work up quick (only about 4-5 hours).

Next I have a few custom orders I'm sending out tomorrow. The first was a request for a puppy for a baby shower and I worked with this aweeeeesome customer to make something unique for her. Remember how I said I have a lot of blanket yarn? Yup. This guy is soft and uber squishy due to Bernat blanket yarn. I think he turned out pretty adorable but he was slightly terrifying in the assembly stage. Check out my dog Rudy's face when he saw it. ;) The pattern is slightly modified from Dariya Baysh and I LOVE IT. All her stuff is friggin awesome.

I'm also whipping up another Eeyore today for a custom order. Might have it done by the Live tonight, who knows. But here are some pics from my instagram post I did on this guy over the summer. The pattern is by FuzzPoppi and I absolutely adore all her plushies. I have a few in my queue so if you are looking for baby gifts but don't know what you want, hit me up and let's chat.

Lastly I've got my selfish knitting project. It's Jessie Mae's Ripple Crop top and I. Am. In. Love. I'm using Anzula Nebula yarn which has a bit of stellina in it and makes it incredibly sparkly and shimmery. But not scratchy at all!!! It's 84% supewash Merino (sooooo soft) and 16% stellina and it is BOMB. Highly recommend it. I can't wait to have a new little tshirt to rock in the Florida Fall (AKA forever summer).

So there ya have it kids. A fun new cocktail and my current WIPs. I hope you join in for my Whiskey and WIPs Instagram Lives!!!! And if you missed it, don't worry, there's always next week!

Slàinte!
