The Florida Babe Bikini is a knit string bikini with minimal-moderate coverage. It features crocheted elastic edging to fit your curves and ensure the bikini stays snugly against your body. You can choose to make your own sewn fabric straps or make crochet elastic straps (video tutorials linked in pattern).

SIZING

The Florida Babe Bikini is sized for hips 33"-62". Grab a measuring tape and measure around the fullest part of your booty. Find your measurement in my sizes below for the approximate yardage for your bottoms:

Bikini Bottoms (MC)

Sizes - 1, 2, 3, 4 (5, 6, 7, 8) [9, 10, 11]

Yardage- 98, 105, 116, 135 (155, 171, 181, 195) [206, 217, 236]

For your cup "size" in the bikini top, you will use your own breast measurements to find your base cup width. You will need to measure your breasts “Swell to Swell”. Swell to Swell is my term for the measurement under your breasts from the inside swell (where the curve of your breast meets the center of your chest) to the outside swell (where the curve of your breast meets your side, often in line with your armpit). This is *most likely* going to be your base cup width number. More information is provided in the pattern for finding your measurement, but these are the approximate yardages for the base cup width based on Swell to Swell measurements:

You will need approximately 30-50 yards in either MC or CC for your crochet edging and you will need 5-8 yards round cord elastic for the edging and straps.

If crocheting your straps, you will need approximately 30-100 yards of yarn (in a CC if you desire).

For sewn fabric straps, you will need scrap fabric (stretchy fabrics like spandex/nylon/lycra recommended) and 3-5 yards 1/4th inch Cotton Swimwear Elastic.

YARN

**A note on yarn choice for your Florida Babe Bikini ***

Your yarn choice and comfort level will determine if your bikini is a swimsuit or sunbathing suit. To ensure the bikini is good for water wear, I recommend using microfiber yarn or at least mercerized cotton yarn. Microfiber yarns like Alize Diva Stretch hold up great in the water and don’t absorb water as much as cotton (or acrylic or wool). If you choose to use a cotton yarn, the elastic in the bikini will ensure that it stays on your body in the water (it won’t fall off!), but because cotton is very absorbent, you may end up with “diaper booty” where the fabric absorbs and sags right under your bottom. If you don’t mind squeezing out the water and being slightly damp for the rest of your wear in the bikini, then go for it! Otherwise, stick to sunbathing in your suit or switch to a microfiber yarn.
